Penn State adds quarterback, wide receiver to 2018 class

Penn State received two more oral commitments Saturday for its freshman class of 2018, getting pledges from quarterback Will Levis of Middletown, Conn., and wide receiver Shaquon Anderson-Butts of Harrisburg, Pa.

Saturday's activity, plus the commitment Friday of Tampa, Fla., defensive end Judge Culpepper, increased head coach James Franklin's list of 2018 freshmen to 17.

The addition of Levis, who is ranked 26th among pro-style high school quarterbacks by 247Sports, gives Franklin a quarterback for his freshman class. Justin Fields, a five-star player considered the top high school dual-threat quarterback in the country, withdrew his commitment from Penn State last month.

According to reports, the 6-foot-4, 222-pound Levis, rated three stars by 247Sports.com, visited Penn State on Friday, was offered a scholarship that night, and committed Saturday morning. He also had offers from Florida State, Iowa, Mississippi and North Carolina.

"I'd like to announce that I have received an offer and am committing to continue my academic and athletic career at Pennsylvania State University!" Levis said on Twitter.

The 6-foot-{ inch, 202-pound Anderson-Butts, who is rated four stars by Scout.com, played wide receiver during his junior year at Harrisburg High School but is also being looked at as a defensive back. He also received offers from Baylor, Florida, Notre Dame, Oregon, Maryland and Nebraska, among others.

"Blessed to say I'm staying home and attending the Pennsylvania state university," he wrote on Twitter.

The Nittany Lions held their annual "Lasch Bash" _ a gathering of both committed high school players and sought-after recruits _ on Saturday at their football building.
