Penn and Winthrop baseball teams had the most ridiculous rain-delay battle

Rain-delay battles are common in college baseball. And over the years, we’ve seen teams get creative with their back-and-forth shenanigans from opposing dugouts.

But I can wholeheartedly say that the bar for rain-delay battles has been raised by Penn and Winthrop. It’s going to take something drastic to top what unfolded Friday in Rock Hill, S.C.

As the teams were sitting through a rain delay for the series opener (which was eventually postponed), the Winthrop players got the festivities started with a mock kick-boxing fight. That was just the beginning of the epic battle.

The stakes continued to raise until absolute mayhem unfolded — as shown in a Twitter thread from Penn baseball player Christian Walton.

Round 1: Boxing and hunting

Round 2: Bathroom break and wedding

Round 3: Birth and a funeral

Round 4: SHAVE BATTLE

This was when the battle got kicked to a new level. The Penn players were creative up until that point, sure, but Winthrop was ready to end the battle by shaving a player’s beard right there in front of the dugout. Penn couldn’t believe what it was watching at first. Then, a teammate volunteered to one-up Winthrop and have his head shaved.

Round 5: Penn wins by pulled-tooth knockout

THEY ACTUALLY DID THIS.

Just wow. Penn deserves a national championship trophy for that battle alone.
