Penicuik man making PPE shields for key workers fighting coronavirus with his 3D printer

A local Penicuik man has been manufacturing PPE shields for key workers battling the coronavirus outbreak.

David Ritchie, who helps to run the livery yard at Ravensneuk Farm, has been inundated with orders after he began making shields with his 3D printer.

David has been buying the materials with his own money, however recently started a GoFundMe to buy more 3D printers.

The GoFundMe has currently raised £578, allowing David to put in an order for a third 3D printer.

David told Edinburgh Live: "I'm always looking for uses for my 3D printer and when the shields started to appear a few weeks back I first thought there wouldn't be demand.

"I realised the demand was very high, in less than eight hours I had orders for 80 masks and we've received over £500 of donations. We are ordering more printers and supplies so we can meet the demand."

David is also appealing to anyone who may be able to donate the materials needed to print the masks.

David currently needs donations of:

* A4 Clear Binding Covers (200+ microns thickness)
* 1.75mm PET-G 3D Printer Filament
* 12mm Woven Elasticated Band (like used in sewing)
* Large clear zip bags, needs to be able to hold an A4 sheet of paper
