Penguins’ Tristan Jarry Scores Historic Goalie Goal Against Lightning

Penguins goalie Tristan Jarry got his name on the scoresheet in Thursday night’s win over the Lightning, as he managed to bury a goalie goal from across the ice into Tampa Bay’s empty net.

With Pittsburgh looking to maintain its 3–2 lead, the Lightning opted to pull Andrei Vasilevskiy in favor of a sixth skater. With the opposing net open, Jarry unleashed a snipe from in front of his own goal. The puck soared past every Tampa skater on the ice and bounced directly into the goal.

After Jarry’s goalie goal, Penguins fans in attendance at Amalie Arena in Tampa Bay could be seen celebrating around the stadium, while some Lightning fans appeared to be heading for the exit.

Not only was it the first goal of Jarry’s career, it was the first time in franchise history that a Penguins goalie scored a goal, dating back to the franchise’s inception in 1967.

The Lightning had been ahead 2–0 in Thursday’s game, but the Penguins were able to turn the tides and fight back to win 4–2, with Jarry’s goalie goal acting as the icing on the cake of a comeback victory.
