Evgeni Malkin will miss Thursday's game at Boston and the NHL All-Star Game this weekend with a lower-body injury he sustained Tuesday in a 3-0 loss to the Blues, Penguins coach Mike Sullivan announced Wednesday after practice.
Malkin absorbed a hit in the corner from St. Louis defenseman Joel Edmundson. Afterward, he was wincing in pain and couldn't put any weight on his left leg, although Sullivan did not specify when exactly Malkin was hurt.
Sullivan said Malkin will be re-evaluated after the break.
"We'll probably have more information at that point," Sullivan said.
Malkin did finish the game after the Edmundson hit.
Sullivan also announced that Patric Hornqvist, who like Malkin missed practice at the UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex, is now day-to-day with a lower-body injury sustained Tuesday
Hornqvist was hit in the leg with a shot early and missed a shift or two, but otherwise finished the game just fine.
"We'll see how he responds after today," Sullivan said. "He'll obviously be a day-to-day decision."
The injuries _ if Hornqvist can't play Thursday _ leave the Penguins with 11 healthy forwards. Sullivan said he was planning to meet with management in a little bit to determine who to summon from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.
