Penguin named Rainbow that hatched prematurely hits pool at London Zoo after 10 weeks in incubator

A penguin that hatched prematurely after her parents stepped on her egg is now standing on her own feet at London Zoo.

The penguin, named Rainbow because she was born at the time of London Pride in the summer, spent 10 weeks in an incubator before being moved to a specially designed “penguin nursery”.

Adrian Walls, London Zoo’s head bird keeper, said: “Rainbow has gone from strength to strength. In September she moved into the main pool for good and hasn’t looked back.

“She loves food and is always eager for her next meal, especially when it’s sand eel — a fish we feed our colony as a treat.
