Penei Sewell’s jersey number is not yet official, but the Lions first-round tackle was spotted rocking No. 58 in the team’s first offseason activities this week.
Sewell wore No. 58 at Oregon. The Lions already had a 58 with veteran linebacker Jamie Collins, but it appears Collins has allowed Sewell to take over the jersey number. Collins previously wore 51 and 91 in his stops with the Patriots and Browns, though those numbers are currently taken by Jahlani Tavai and John Penisini, respectively.
The Lions have not yet made any jersey numbers official for any of the rookies or newcomers. It is not terribly uncommon for things to change between now and the regular season with player changes, but it does seem a pretty safe bet that Sewell will be No. 58.
