Pendlebury wants to stay with Magpies

Collingwood captain Scott Pendlebury says he wants to finish his AFL playing career a one-team man. (AAP)

Collingwood captain Scott Pendlebury has declared he is not going anywhere, attempting to shut down talk of a late-career AFL switch.

The 33-year-old midfielder has his sights set on a move into coaching once his playing days are over, and on Sunday said he would consider offers from other clubs.

But on Tuesday, Pendlebury - Collingwood's games record-holder - apologised to Magpies supporters for note making clear his intentions.

"Sorry for any confusion. Just to clear it up - I want to be a one club player and finish my playing career at Collingwood," Pendlebury wrote on Twitter.

"I'm open to coaching at another club AFTER my playing days.

"Collingwood Fam - I'm not going anywhere."

Pendlebury has played 334 games for Collingwood in a decorated career that includes five best-and-fairest awards and six All-Australian selections.

The 2010 premiership star has been club captain since taking over from Nick Maxwell in 2014.

Meanwhile, former Adelaide coach Don Pyke has officially pulled out of the race to replace Nathan Buckley at Collingwood.

Pyke, who left the Crows at the end of 2019, has told Sydney, where he is a senior assistant, that he will be staying with the Swans.

"It didn't surprise us, Don spoke to me (on Monday) and informed that was the case," Swans chief executive Tom Harley told SEN.

"Don was always transparent with us so he closed that out with us.

"Senior coaching decisions, whether you put your hat in the ring, are family decisions as much as anything else and the timing's just not right for Don.

"Selfishly, really happy Don's sticking around with the red and white."

Triple Brisbane Lions premiership player Craig McRae now shapes as the favourite to land the Collingwood job after assistant coaching gigs with the Magpies, Richmond, and currently Hawthorn.
