Pendine Beach incident: Body of woman discovered in Wales beauty spot

The body of a woman has been discovered on a beach in Wales.

Dyfed-Powys Police, the ambulance service and the coastguard are all reportedly in attendance at Pendine Sands in Carmarthenshire, with drivers advised to stay away from the area.

A statement from police read: “Dyfed-Powys Police received a call just before 12.25pm this afternoon, Tuesday, April 19, 2022 reporting an incident at Pendine Beach, Pendine, Carmarthenshire.

"Sadly the body of a woman has been found. Next of kin have been advised and are being supported by officers.

"The death is not being treated as suspicious and enquiries continue.”

A Welsh Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: “We were called at approximately 12.20pm today, Tuesday 19 April, to the Pendine Sands area of Carmarthenshire.

“We sent an advanced paramedic practitioner and an emergency ambulance to the scene, where crews were also supported by two duty operational managers.”

Pendine Sands has a seven-mile sandy beach and is located 15 miles west of Carmarthen and 15 miles east of Tenby, reports Wales Online.

A statement from the coastguard read: "HM Coastguard was asked to assist Wales Ambulance Service with a report of an incident at Pendine just before 12.30pm today.

"Coastguard rescue teams from Tenby and Llansteffan, the search and rescue helicopter from St Athan and the RNLI lifeboat from Tenby were sent. Dyfed-Powys Police and a helimed were also sent."

One worker in a shop near the beach told our reporter at the scene: “Emergency services first came here late this morning, between 10 and 11. They were on the beach.

"Apparently she was found shortly after 10 this morning. I didn’t see a helicopter here, just police and paramedics. Unfortunately it seems she had already died before they arrived. It’s very tragic.”
