Peloton adds new social feature to connect members in quarantine

Peloton

At-home spin bike company Peloton has introduced a new social function aimed at bringing its members closer together by allowing you to make friends while you work out during lockdown.

The new feature allows Peloton members to add hashtags to their profiles corresponding to their interests and workout goals.

They can either create new tags or select existing trending tags and search for members who share the same interest tags, as well as invite people to join a certain tags they've created.

It's something the community's members have already been doing themselves - there are currently more than 300 Peloton-focused groups on Facebook which have been self-organised by members and focus on a wide range of topics, from parenting to body positivity and members living with certain illnesses.

The new tag function designed to strengthen social interaction among Peloton's more than two million members comes at perfect timing as lockdown drags on and millions around the world continue to exercise at home, though according to The Independent, the feature has been in development for many months.

Peloton has also extended its free trial of the app, which now offers strength classes, yoga, cardio, meditation and bootcamp classes in addition to its spin-based classes on the bike, to 90 days in light of the global pandemic - thus allowing potential members to try before they buy before committing to the hefty investment.

Peloton bikes start £1,990 and unlimited access to the streaming classes is £39 a month.
