Pelosi: 'If Hillary had won, I was ready to go home'

WASHINGTON _ House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi said Friday that had Hillary Clinton won the presidency, the California Democrat would have left her longtime position in Congress because a Democratic White House would have ensured the 2010 health care law stayed in place.

"If Hillary had won, I was ready to go home," Pelosi said. "If she were there, then I would not worry about that."

Pelosi said her decision to keep her position in leadership, in which she was challenged in November after rank-and-file members agitated for change following stunning loses, was to keep fighting for the landmark legislation she helped pass.

"None of us thought Hillary would win; we all knew she would win," Pelosi said. "This was, oh my gosh, it was really shocking that somebody like Donald Trump becomes president of the United States, oh my gosh. We yearn for the day (for) a Mitt Romney or a George Bush. But anyway, that motivated me to stay."

Pelosi is notoriously mum about her future in Congress.

"I'll make a decision one time at a time," she said about her staying in her position as minority leader. "I would have been gone by now if she had won."
