Pelinka: Lakers waiting on NBA investigation to decide Cousins’ fate

DeMarcus Cousins remains on the Los Angeles Lakers for now and he will be there at least until the NBA concludes their own investigation regarding a domestic dispute between Cousins and an ex-girlfriend that led to an arrest warrant in Alabama, according to Lakers general manager Rob Pelinka.

Pelinka fielded questions about everything at Friday’s Lakers media day, including Cousins’ status on the roster. Pelinka said that the Lakers will not make a decision on keeping him on the team until the league notifies them of what they find in their investigation.

The Lakers released a statement that they were taking the allegations very seriously back when they surfaced in August. For a parallel, you may want to look to the NBA’s investigation of sexual assault allegations against Sacramento head coach Luke Walton. The league found no “sufficient basis” for the allegations and they closed the investigation with Walton still being the coach of the Kings.
