Pelicans vs. Timberwolves Recap: The good, the bad and the Ball

The Pelicans avenged one of their worst losses of the season with a 120-107 win at Minnesota on Sunday afternoon.

The Good: Jrue Holiday

Sometimes, Jrue Holiday falls by the wayside when Pelicans fans or neutrals look at New Orleans. Between Brandon Ingram’s All-Star season, Zion Williamson’s debut and even Lonzo Ball’s recent strong play, Holiday has floated into the background at times.

He was most certainly front and center on Sunday, pouring in 37 points, 9 rebounds and eight assists. It was not only one of his best games of the season but one of the best games he’s played as a Pelican.

The Bad: Turnovers

The good news for the Pelicans on the night is that they won a game in which they turned the ball over the ball 25 times. It’s the ninth time this season the Pelicans have committed at least 20 turnovers and just the third win.

Turnovers continue to be a huge problem for this team. The offense is clicking so well right now that it might not be too big a problem but it’s still going to cost the team at times.

The Ball: Strong shooting resumes

Ball didn’t light up the scoreboards on Sunday but he still played well. His final line of 16 points, eight assists and five rebounds. He returned to his hot shooting form by going 4-of-8 beyond the arc.

One of his biggest plays of the night, though, came in the final minutes. With the Timberwolves hanging around, Ball drew an and-one after a beautiful hesitation and finish at the rim with his left hand.

The downside to his night was that he committed seven turnovers. Of all the Pelicans, he continues to struggle most with turnovers.
