Pelicans vs. Lakers Recap: The good, the bad and the Ball

A valiant fight from the New Orleans Pelicans went for not in the final night of a three-game road trip as they fell to the Lakers 118-109.

The Good: Brandon Ingram

While Zion Williamson had many of the highlights on the night, Brandon Ingram was the reason the Pelicans found themselves in the game most of hte the night. Ingram was in prime All-Star form, scoring 34 points on 12-of-20 shooting. While he did go just 3-of-9 from three-point territory, he hit seven of his eight free throws and added four assists and six rebounds.

Honorable mentions: Defense on Anthony Davis, Zion Williamson

The Bad: Jrue Holiday on LeBron James

The Pelicans don’t particularly have a great option to guard LeBron James. But Jrue Holiday, for all his plaudits that are well-deserved, was certainly not the answer on Tuesday. James pretty much had his way against Holiday in the post and overpowered Holiday all day long.

James finished with 40 points, eight rebounds and six assists, setting a season-high in the process. While it’s worth noting not many people can slow down James, Holiday may not be the preferred option moving forward.

Honorable mentions: JJ Redick,

The Ball: Quiet but impactful

Lonzo Ball did not have a particularly loud game. He finished with 10 points, eight assists and seven rebounds but shot 4-of-11 from the field and 2-of-6 from three-point range.

The only highlight Ball was apart of featured him being on the receiving end of a vicious block from Alex Caruso. With Ingram and Zion Williamson doing plenty of scoring, Ball wasn’t needed in that department on the night.
