If the Pelicans are going to make a move for the playoffs in the second half of the season, it’ll have to start on Friday night in Portland. While New Orleans just knocked off the Trail Blazers with Damian Lillard prior to the All-Star break, an injury will sideline Lillard making it a more winnable game.
In the opening five games out of the All-Star break, the Pelicans play three non-playoff teams and the Lakers twice. A strong start to the second half will be necessary for the Pelicans to be legitimate playoff contenders.
After losing to Sacramento to open the second half, Memphis heads to Los Angeles before road games against the Clippers and Houston. New Orleans can quickly close the now five-game gap.
