Pelicans trying to position themselves to keep Anthony Davis

It appears that the New Orleans Pelicans are hoping landing the No. 1 pick in the 2019 NBA Draft will also help them hold on to Anthony Davis, despite the trade request from the superstar back in January.

Although reports immediately after the Pelicans won the lottery indicated that Davis’ stance had not chance. However, basically all leverage the Lakers were hoping to have with lottery luck was lost when New Orleans got the No. 1 pick.

The tables have turned and now the Pelicans have reason to believe they can keep Anthony Davis, according to Marc Stein of the New York Times. However, Stein also suggests that the Pelicans might be leveraged by Zion Williamson’s potential threat of going back to school.

The Pelicans and Lakers getting into the top-four has been quite the twist to the Davis saga. The Lakers definitely got lucky last night, but their luck had a ceiling. After all of the twists and turns that the story has given us over the past six months, there is no outcome that would be surprising anymore.
