Pelicans to play on Christmas Day for third time in franchise history

Lonzo Ball, Zion Williamson and the New Orleans Pelicans are set take on the Jamal Murray, Nikola Jokic and the Denver Nuggets on Christmas Day, Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reported on Saturday. This marks just the third time in franchise history that the Pelicans will play on Christmas Day. The last time was in 2015. The first time was in 2008.

While the Pelicans haven’t enjoyed anywhere near the same success that last season’s No. 2 seed Nuggets have, they’re two exciting young teams with a ton of potential. The game will also have a few storylines worth tuning in for.

For those that have followed Ball’s career with the Los Angeles Lakers, it’s no secret that he and Murray don’t get a long. Murray might have an overall better season than Ball next season, but you can guarantee Ball will get up for that game. The fact that it’s on Christmas Day is just icing on the fruit cake.

It might also be the first time we see Rookie of the Year favorites Williamson and Michael Porter Jr. go head-to-head. Porter sat out the 2018-19 season with a back injury, but he’s expected to be one of the most exciting rookies in the league when he’s back to full strength next season.
