Pelicans News: Lonzo Ball fully cleared for start of training camp

After a slow recovery process from an ankle sprain and bone bruise at the start of 2019, Lonzo Ball will have no limitations heading into the preseason of his inaugural season with the Pelicans.

In an interview with Pelicans writer Jim Eichenhofer at the Westbank Boys & Girls Club on Tuesday, Ball confirmed that he has been fully cleared heading into training camp at the end of September.

“I’m good. Doing everything, 5-on-5, full-contact. I’m good.”

Ball has had a long, arduous recovery process that has had some setbacks. With the initial injury already having a long recovery time amongst NBA players, a bone bruise discovered later in the process delayed his recovery.

The Lakers and Pelicans both opted to bring Ball back slowly but in recent weeks, he has been a full participant in voluntary workouts in the weeks leading up to training camp.

Ball missed the start of last season’s training camp due to a knee injury, an injury that set him behind the eight ball early and led to him not being in the starting lineup to begin the regular season. Ball’s spot in the starting lineup this fall is not guaranteed again, making his full availability from day one all the more vital.
