Pelicans News: JJ Redick declines USA Basketball FIBA World Cup invite

The USA Basketball program continued taking hits on Friday morning as JJ Redick opted to decline an invite to take part in the FIBA World Cup, per Shams Charania.

Redick was only invited to be apart of the team on Thursday as USA Basketball formally sent out a new batch of invites. Like Redick, Los Angeles Clipper forward Montrezl Harrell was invited on Thursday and also turned down the opportunity.

While it’s not a particularly great look for USA Basketball to have so many players turn down the opportunity, the team will still have plenty of talent on the roster to field a competitive team. The greater worry is how many of the players who turn down an opportunity to play this summer will join the team next season to play in the Olympics in Tokyo.

For now, it’s not a problem USA Basketball will have to attend to. The pressing issue is finding a roster worth heading into training camp in the coming weeks to with. The team has enough commitments from players to field a team that should be both competitive and favorites in the World Cup.
