As the NBA considers how to pay proper tribute to Los Angeles Lakers legend Kobe Bryant, some players are honoring him in their own way.
New Orleans Pelicans center Jahlil Okafor is among a handful of athletes in the league planning to change their jersey number from 8, one of the two numbers Bryant wore during his NBA career.
ESPN reporter Andrew Lopez reported Okafor will change his number, though as of Tuesday evening, the Pelicans player was unsure which number he would choose.
As a high school student at Whitney Young in Chicago, Okafor wore No. 22. In his one year at Duke, he wore No. 15.
Brooklyn Nets guard Spencer Dinwiddie and Orlando Magic guard Terrence Ross have already been granted league approval to change their number from 8, according to the NBA. Dinwiddie will wear No. 26 and Ross No. 31.
Bryant, 41, was one of nine people killed in a helicopter crash in Calabasas, Calif. on Sunday.
