Emily is a girl who has lived all of her life in current day New York. Her mum died a few years ago but to Em it still feels as if she died last week. And it's almost like the storm outside and the thunder that sounds like hooves is about to change her life.
Here is a short extract from the book:
Just as the first rays of dawn lit the horizon, they approached the shoreline of Rio. Small, rugged, peaked islands poked out of the water and lush green mountains rose in the distance. The islands beneath them were closest, but they all looked as if they were fully inhabited and offered no protection for the Olympians.
But to find out how Emily finds herself flying above Rio, you'll need to read Kate O' Hearn's series of Pegasus books!
I wanted to read this book because I had read the first one and really liked it. I liked it because of the way that even though Emily couldn't understand what Pegasus said, she was still his best friend. Now, having read the latest book I find that the stories have got even better. I like how the author has made the Greek myths relate to modern life.
My favourite character is definitely Pegasus because he's so gentle. As one of the most well known Olympians for his proud reputation it's surprising that he can be so thoughtful to a young girl. Although I also really like Emily because even though she is the most powerful person in Olympia, even more important than Jupiter, she is still really humble and acts just like a normal girl. If you forget that she has magical powers and doesn't need to sleep, she's just as ordinary as you and me.
In this particular book Emily finds that the Xan that is living inside her has another part of her body living inside another girl who seems intent on killing Emily. With Emily gradually losing power and the girl gradually gaining, will Emily really be able to defeat her?
I recommend the Pegasus books to people who are interested in mythological creatures and magic. And no, its not all about pretty little ponies dancing round in rings!
