Pedro Porro Tottenham shirt number confirmed following £39.5m deadline day transfer

Pedro Porro will wear the No.23 at Tottenham after signing a five-and-a-half year contract to join Spurs on an initial loan deal until the end of the season.

The Lilywhites have an obligation to buy him as part of the agreement in a deal worth €45million (£39.5million) after a deal looked to have fallen through over the weekend. As football.london reported ahead of the January transfer window, Spurs were targeting a new attacker and right wing-back and the arrival of Porro completes their winter window priorities.

Arnaut Danjuma joined the club from Villarreal on loan after Spurs hijacked his move to Everton. The Spanish defender was Antonio Conte's priority as a new right wing-back and after weeks of negotiations, where Spurs were initially reluctant to pay the full release clause, a deal has been agreed.

Porro faced Spurs in the Champions League this season and will now have the opportunity to play for his new club on Europe's greatest stage with their last-16 first leg match against AC Milan set to take place at San Siro on February 14. Porro's arrival has seen Djed Spence and Matt Doherty leave the club - with the latter having mutually agreed to terminate his contract to join Atletico Madrid on a six-month deal.

Doherty's loan move to Atleti was originally supposed to be a straight loan with no option or obligation to buy, football.london understands. However, there is a FIFA ruling that meant a temporary exit wasn't possible, with clubs only permitted to send out a maximum of eight players on loan per season - a quota that Spurs have already filled.

Harry Winks, Tanguy Ndombele, Bryan Gil, Joe Rodon, Sergio Reguilon, Giovani Lo Celso, Destiny Udogie and the aforementioned Spence have all left the north Londoners on various loan deals over the last seven months, meaning that Doherty would have to leave on a permanent basis in order to sign for Diego Simeone's side this month. Spence has joined Stade Rennais on loan until the end of the season, joining fellow Spurs star Rodon at the Ligue 1 side.

Porro could be in line to start against Manchester City on Sunday, February 5. The Spaniard previously played for City with Pep Guardiola's side failing to act on their buy-back clause in his previous contract with Sporting before he sealed a move to Spurs.
