Pedro Obiang ready to settle for supporting role as West Ham hot streak goes on

Pedro Obiang is happy to settle for a supporting role in the West Ham side as they aim for their longest Premier League winning streak in nearly 13 years.

The 26-year-old has been among the substitutes during that streak with Mark Noble and Declan Rice impressing in the heart of midfield and Obiang featured for just 28 minutes in the 2-0 win at Fulham.

Manuel Pellegrini is similarly spoiled for choice in attack, where Antonio made light of the absence of Lucas Perez, Marko Arnautovic and Andriy Yarmolenko with an impressive all-round display leading the West Ham line.

“In this sport you have to have 20, 23 players all ready to help the squad,” Obiang told Standard Sport.

“I don’t feel pressure from Mark and Declan, I feel happy! It’s always better when we win than when we lose. I prefer that they keep playing well and make me try to train better and improve.”

Victory over Watford on Saturday would represent the Hammers longest run of Premier League wins since February 2006, when Alan Pardew’s side ended the season in ninth.

“Three weeks ago we were never thinking about this run,” said Obiang. “Now we’re at four, of course we all want five but we’re taking it step by step.”
