Pedro Mendes laments Rangers alternate reality as he delivers damning mentality verdict

Pedro Mendes has lamented the inconsistency which has left Rangers trailing in Celtic's Premiership wake.

The former Ibrox favourite has questioned the mentality of Steven Gerrard 's side on the domestic front following a stunning Europa League success over Braga.

Rangers head to Tynecastle, a venue where they've yet to win this season, bidding for a place in the Scottish Cup semi-final.

Mendes wants to see the same ruthlessness which has characterised their continental exploits this term and reckons Rangers would be much better off if they had.

"I saw Rangers against Porto, both legs. I saw Rangers against Celtic ," the ex-midfielder told BT Sport.

"And if Rangers play like this every week they will be top of the league.

"The problem with these players is what happens to their mentality when they go to St Johnstone, Hearts, Hibs, Hamilton, whatever.

"It's a big task for Gerrard. They can't just switch from one first-class performance to a very, very poor performance.

"Against Braga, a fantastic 30 minutes that turned the first leg around.

"Then, a poor performance on Sunday. Now, again, fantastic performance.

"The big question is how Rangers will perform next weekend.

"It's something they should work on."
