Pedestrians look on in shock as car catches fire in Perth city centre

Pedestrians looked on in shock this morning after a car caught fire in Perth city centre.

Fire crews were alerted to the incident on Scott Street just before 9am where one unit was sent to douse the flames.

The road was closed temporarily by police to allow the blaze to be extinguished and was reopened again at 9.20am.

No casualties were reported and the car fire is not being treated as suspicious.

A spokesperson for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said: “We were alerted at 8.50am on Thursday, October 7 to reports of a car on fire at Scott Street, Perth.

“Operations control mobilised one appliance and firefighters extinguished the fire.

“There were no reported casualties and crews left after ensuring the area was made safe.”

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We received reports of a car on fire in Perth around 8.55am on Thursday, October 7.

“The fire is not being treated as suspicious and the road was reopened at 9.20am.”
