Pedestrianisation of College Green pushed back to 2024

The pedestrianisation of College Green will not begin until 2024, it has emerged.

The plans for the traffic free plaza were first proposed in 2015 before being rejected by An Board Pleanala a year later.

New plans were published by the Council in November of last year which saw the traffic-free space double in size.

Under the plans, buses, taxis and cars will be banned from the plaza that will run from the gates of Trinity to the junction at Dame Street and South Great George's Street.

At a meeting of Dublin City Council's Traffic and Transport Committee, Councillors were told that the project will not be rolled out until 2024.

Senior Officer with the Council Franke Lambe told the meeting: “In 2023 we would hopefully be getting planning and going through a procurement process for a contractor with a view to being in a position to start work on College Green in early 2024."
