Pedestrian who died in M5 crash believed to be man from Gloucester

Police believe a pedestrian who died in an M5 crash near Clevedon is a man from Gloucester.

Avon and Somerset police were called at about 4.30am yesterday (July 20) following a report of a pedestrian in the southbound carriageway just south of Junction 20.

On arrival they found a man who had been struck by a vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

A force spokeswoman has now said: "While formal identification is yet to take place, the deceased is believed to be a man in his 30s from Gloucester.

"A family liaison officer is providing support to his next of kin."

The M5 was closed for almost 10 hours between Junctions 19 (Gordano) and 20 (Weston-super-Mare) following the fatal crash.

Avon and Somerset police said at the time: "Police would like to thank motorists for their patience while collision investigators examine the scene."

They have informed next of kin to the man believed to have died.

Officers have spoken to the driver involved in the crash, which is not being treated as suspicious.
