Pedestrian taken to hospital after being hit by vehicle in Heaton

A woman has been taken to hospital for treatment after she was hit by a vehicle in Newcastle.

Police and paramedics were called to Warwick Street in Heaton at around 8.39am on Wednesday morning after a woman was knocked down by a vehicle.

The woman was taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary but her injuries are not believed to be serious.

The road was temporarily closed while emergency services attended with buses being diverted via Heaton Park Road.

A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: "At 8.39am on Wednesday, May 8, we received a report a pedestrian had been hit by a vehicle on Warwick Street, Heaton.

"Emergency services attended and the female pedestrian was taken to hospital for injuries not believed to be serious.

"The road was closed while emergency services were in attendance and traffic diverted away from the area."

Warwick Street has now been reopened in both directions to traffic.
