Pedestrian suffers life-changing injuries after crash in Merthyr Tydfil

A pedestrian has been left with potentially life-changing injuries after being hit by a car in Merthyr Tydfil.

The incident happened at in Dowlais on Gellifaelog Old Road, near the junction with High Street and New Road at approximately 10.05pm on Saturday, August 1.

South Wales Police said they attended the scene following reports of a serious collision involving a blue Vauxhall Corsa and a pedestrian.

Two men, aged 29 and 25, were subsequently arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury through careless driving and driving while unfit through drink or drugs.

The 29-year-old, who was also arrested on suspicion of possessing Class A drugs, remains in police custody.

The 25-year-old has since been released without charge.

Details on type of injuries sustained by the pedestrian, and their sex and age, have not been revealed by South Wales Police.

However, the force is appealing to anyone who witnessed the collision, who has not yet given an account to police, to come forward.

Detectives would also like to hear from anyone who saw the vehicle in the moments prior to or following the collision, or anyone who has dash-cam, CCTV or mobile phone footage which could assist the investigation.
