Pedestrian struck by Metra train; halted BNSF Line moving again

April 13--Trains on Metra's BNSF Line are moving again after an inbound express train struck a pedestrian near Downers Grove's Main Street station Wednesday morning, a spokesman for the rail agency said.

Metra spokesman Tom Miller said a person was struck about 8:15 a.m. by express train 1252 that started out in Aurora and was headed for Chicago's Union Station. Specifics about the victim's condition and more information about the incident weren't available, he said.

Inbound and outbound trains were halted in the area after the incident.

"The three tracks were actually closed for up to 90 minutes," Miller said.

He said train 1252 was still stopped at the site about 11 a.m. Other tracks near the site have been opened and trains are slowly moving past the scene, Miller said.

Downers Grove police officials could not be reached for information.

It is the second straight day a Metra train stuck a pedestrian. A 19-year-old man was killed Tuesday after being struck by a train in Hanover Park.

Metra advises riders to listen to platform announcements for delay times or refer to Rail-Time Tracker at metrarail.com for current delay information.
