A Darien man is accused of driving drunk and striking a man on the sidewalk Tuesday in Gold Coast on the Near North Side.

Kenneth Ida, 25, was charged with one misdemeanor count of driving under the influence of alcohol, Chicago police said. He was also issued two traffic citations.

About 2:50 a.m., Ida was eastbound in a 2003 Toyota Corolla in the first block of East Chestnut Street when he clipped a westbound 2017 Hyundai, Chicago police said.

The Toyota veered right and jumped onto the sidewalk, striking a 50-year-old man, police said. He was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in serious condition.

Ida remained on scene, police said. He is due in court March 4.
