Pedestrian seriously injured after being hit by a car on A78 at Largs

A pedestrian was seriously injured after being hit by a car on a busy Ayrshire road.

The 38-year-old was struck by a blue Ford Fusion on Friday at around 10.55pm on the A78 north of St Fillan’s Bridge, Largs.

Police confirmed today the 26-year-old female driver of the car was uninjured.

Cops are now appealing for witnesses that saw the serious crash that closed the road for around four hours.

The pedestrian was rushed to Greenock's Inverclyde Royal Hospital with serious injuries, where he remains.

The road was closed and diversions put in place while officers carried out enquiries to establish the full circumstances surrounding the crash. The road re-opened around 3am.

Sergeant Ian Thornton, of Ayrshire Division’s road policing unit, said: “I am appealing to any witnesses who may have seen the crash or were driving in the area around the time of the crash to come forward.

"I would also ask anyone with dash-cam footage that could assist our investigation to get in touch."

Anyone with information should call police on 101, quoting incident number 3796 of January 29.
