Pedestrian rushed to hospital with 'serious injuries' after being hit by car outside Castleknock school

A male pedestrian has been taken to hospital with "serious injuries" after he was struck by a car outside a well-known Dublin boys' secondary school.

The incident happened right outside Castleknock College around 2.15pm.

It is not known at this stage the age of the injured man, though a witness has told Dublin Live that he believed him to be in his 40s.

Gardai told Dublin Live: "Gardaí in Blanchardstown responded to a traffic collision between a car and male pedestrian earlier this afternoon.

"The collision occurred on Carpenterstown Road, Castleknock, Co.Dublin. The male pedestrian was taken to the James Connolly Memorial Hospital with serious injuries."

"The road has been closed pending a technical examination. Local diversions are in place."

AA Roadwatch reports that there are "extremely long delays" in the area.

They said: "Carpenterstown Road is still closed outside Castleknock College following an incident.

"Extremely long delays remain heading from Chapelizod along Knockmaroon Hill and Tower Road into Castleknock. It's also slow leaving the city on Lower Rd through Strawberry Beds."

"The road has been closed pending a technical examination. Local diversions are in place."
