Man in 'serious' condition with head injuries after suspected assault on busy main road near Manchester

A man was rushed to hospital with serious head injuries following a possible assault in Manchester on Tuesday afternoon (August 2). The incident, which is thought to have occured around 2.50pm, saw a huge emergency services response beside a bus stop on busy Wilmslow Road, in Rusholme.

Paramedics attended and called in Greater Manchester Police, where the man in his 40s had been found to be unresponsive. It has been confirmed he suffered serious head injuries and remains in a serious but stable condition in hospital following the incident.

Police cordoned off a bus stop on the south side of the road, heading out of Manchester city centre. The man was taken to hospital for treatment.

There were multiple police vehicles at the scene that arrived on blue lights. Anyone with information is now being urged to contact police immediately.

Detectives from Longsight CID are investigating and say they are 'hopeful people would’ve been in the area at a busy time of day' and can help them to establish what happened. A cordon was erected at the scene shortly afterwards.

Enquiries continue into how the man sustained his injuries and any information should be reported online via the LiveChat facility on the GMP website, or by calling 101 quoting incident 1845 of 02/08/2022

Details can be passed anonymously via the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
