Pedestrian rushed to hospital after being hit by car near busy Eccles junction

A pedestrian has been taken to hospital with minor injuries after being hit by a car in Eccles.

Police were called out to Barton Road at around 6.40pm yesterday evening (July 8) following reports of a collision.

Following initial enquiries, officers discovered that the collision involved a car and a pedestrian.

Greater Manchester Police say the pedestrian suffered minor injuries and was taken to hospital for treatment.

A section of Barton Road was closed on Thursday evening while the incident was cleared.

Drivers heading northbound at the junction with Liverpool Road were diverted away, while the incident caused some disruption to bus services in the area.

A Greater Manchester Police spokesperson said: "Officers were called around 6.40pm on Thursday (July 8, 2021) to Barton Road, Eccles to a report of a collision.

"Officers attended and enquiries established a car and a pedestrian had been in collision.

"The pedestrian was taken to hospital with minor injuries.

"No arrests were made."

In a post on Twitter at 7.23pm on Thursday evening, a Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) spokesperson wrote: "B5211 Barton Road, Eccles.

"Road is blocked traveling northbound at the junction with Liverpool Road.

"Seek alternative route. Follow @DiamondBusNW and @gnwbus (Go North West) for bus diversion info."

The incident had been cleared by 8pm on Thursday night, TfGM said on Twitter.

The North West Ambulance Service was not in attendance.
