Pedestrian remains in critical condition after being hit by lorry in Gateshead

A man is fighting for his life after being hit by a lorry in Gateshead.

Emergency services responded to a report of a collision involving a lorry and a pedestrian on High Street, Wrekenton at around 12.30pm on Monday.

The North East Ambulance Service and Northumbria Police both attended the scene.

The pedestrian was then taken to the hospital where he remains in a critical but stable condition.

The road was closed until just before 2.30pm as collision investigation works took place.

Officers are now appealing for any witnesses of the collision to get in contact.

A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: “At 12.25pm yesterday (Monday) we were alerted by the ambulance service to a collision on High Street, Wrekenton, involving a lorry and a pedestrian.

“Emergency services attended and the male pedestrian was taken to hospital, where he remains in a critical but stable condition.

“Anyone who witnessed the collision can contact police via the ‘Tell Us Something’ page of our website or by calling 101 quoting log NP-20210906-0403.”
