Edinburgh pedestrian 'nearly hit' after sign accidentally diverts traffic up one-way road

A Dalry resident has blasted Edinburgh city council over a blunder that saw traffic dangerously diverted onto a one-way road.

The local warned that the sign, which is on Murieston Lane, nearly saw a pedestrian hit by oncoming traffic.

Calling for it urgent action to fix the issue, she said there's going to be a "serious accident".

Taking to Twitter, she wrote: "There is going to be a serious accident at Murieston Lane where they’ve closed Gorgie Road.

"Some idiot from Edinburgh Council has placed a diversion sign for traffic to come the wrong way out of a one-way lane!

"Is this a Police Scotland matter? A pedestrian was nearly hit tonight!"

A council spokesperson confirmed via social media that they would send a team out to investigate.

However, days after the council were made aware of the problem, nothing had been done.

In an update on Sunday, the resident revealed: "The sign is still there but has been moved further over on the pavement probably by some disgruntled resident."

A council spokesperson said they would have someone "re-attend" that night.

Edinburgh Council has been contacted for comment.
