Pedestrian killed in Kilkenny crash named locally as Cork man Chris Hegarty

The person killed in a road accident in Kilkenny on Wednesday has been named locally as Cork man Chris Hegarty.

The Castlelyons, Co Cork local, aged in his late 30s, was killed when he was hit by a truck when out walking on the N25 at Glenmore.

Locals have been left in shock by the tragic incident, with Chris and his family very popular in the Castlelyons community, Cork Beo reports.

Tributes poured in online for the popular man.

One person posted: "Hi, want to say something to a good friend. You have been a true friend and (have) a heart of gold, always smiling lad and a honest man.

"May you rest in peace lad, never forget ya lad."

Another said: "Always a happy character. In shock of this news. He will be missed by many."

Others said he was a "great supervisor" and "sound man, always up for a laugh".

Funeral arrangements have not yet been announced and will be posted on RIP.ie in due course.

Gardai are investigating the tragic accident and are appealing for witnesses who may have seen what happened.

A garda spokesperson said: "Gardaí at Thomastown are appealing for any witnesses to this incident to come forward, particularly any motorists who were travelling in the area at the time and may have dash cam footage.

"Anyone with information is asked to contact Thomastown Garda Station on 056 7754150 or the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111."
