Pedestrian killed in hit-and-run

Bengaluru

In a case of hit-and-run, a 51-year-old pedestrian was killed while his son escaped with minor injuries when a speeding goods truck knocked them down in Chikkajala on Saturday evening.

The deceased has been identified as Muniraju, a farmer from Bellahalli village. According to the police, the incident occurred around 8 p.m. when Muniraju and his son Bharath were going to a medical shop by walk and were crossing the road at Kogilu Cross. A speeding goods truck hit Muniraju, while Bharath jumped to safety.

Passers-by chased the vehicle to nab the driver, but he managed to escape with the vehicle. Muniraju was taken to a private hospital where he was declared brought dead.

The Chikkajala traffic police conducted spot inspection and found the vehicle number based on CCTV footage. “Efforts are on to nab the driver. We are not ruling out the possibility of drink and drive,” a police officer said.
