A pedestrian has been killed after being hit by two cars in Northumberland.
Shortly before 6am on Monday, police received a report of a collision involving a pedestrian on Foremans Row, Seaton Delaval , near the Keel Row Pub.
It was reported that a white Vauxhall Insignia had struck a male pedestrian who was on the carriageway.
Following the collision another car, a red Mazda 2, travelling in the opposite direction also struck the man.
Emergency services attended the scene on the A192 but sadly the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police say that following the collision, another man, who was believed to have been walking with the victim immediately prior to the collision, then got in to the Vauxhall Insignia - which had stopped - and stole the car, driving away from the scene.
Officers in the area were called, pursued the stolen vehicle before it collided with a wall on First Avenue in Blyth.
The 26-year-old suspect then allegedly fled on foot and was arrested.
Police would like to hear from anyone who witnessed the collision, drivers that were in the area at the time and who may have dashcam footage, or anyone who saw the two pedestrians prior to the incident.
Inspector Ian Cutty, from Northumbria Police’s Motor Patrols Department, said: "This has been an incredibly awful collision where a man has sadly lost his life.
"Enquiries are now being carried out to formally identify the victim and establish exactly what has happened and we need to speak to anyone who witnessed the collision or has any information that may help our investigation.
“It is also not yet clear why the man has got into the Vauxhall Insignia and fled the scene but he has been arrested for theft of a motor vehicle and remains in police custody at this time.
“If anybody saw what happened, or thinks they may have dashcam footage that could assist us, I would ask them to contact police as soon as possible, any detail could be crucial to the investigation.”
