Pedestrian killed after being hit by HGV on the M56

A pedestrian was killed after being hit by a HGV tanker on the M56 in Cheshire.

Police were called out to a section of the busy motorway between junctions 12 and 14 at around 5.30am today following reports that a tanker had collided with the man.

The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene, police have said.

The driver of the HGV, which was heading toward Runcorn at the time of the accident, was uninjured and liaised with officers at the scene.

The section of motorway near Chester services was closed in both directions after the accident. It has since re-opened but drivers have been warned to expect delays in the area.

Anyone who witnessed the collision, or anyone with any information which may aid the investigation, is asked to contact Cheshire Police on 101 quoting IML-707448.
