Pedestrian struck by semi, killed after jumping on Kennedy Expressway: police

A person died Saturday night after jumping from an overpass onto the Kennedy Expressway near the West Loop, authorities said.

The person jumped from the Madison Street overpass and was hit and was struck by the semi as it traveled north on Interstate 90/94, Illinois State Police said in a statement.

The person was pronounced dead at the scene, state police said.

Officers responded at 8:25 p.m. and closed down all lanes of I-90/94 west at Madison, police said. A semi could be seen stopped near the scene. A person’s body appeared to be covered by a sheet on the expressway in the middle of the lanes.

The Chicago Fire Department said paramedics responded, but did not transport anyone to a hospital from the scene.

The Cook County medical examiner’s office has not released details about the death.
