Pedestrian injured in hit-and-run after drink driver sped down wrong side of the road

A drink driver who sped down the wrong side of the road and hit a pedestrian after a boozing session has been put behind bars.

Ryan Littlewood, 27, of Chestnut Drive, Creswell in Worksop had been drinking rum and cokes and a pint of Guinness at a hotel.

After driving his friends home, he then drove his Land Rover at speed down the wrong side of Gateford Road in Worksop, where he hit a person.

The incident happened in the early hours of March 1 and the pedestrian was thrown into the air and over the bonnet, landing heavily on the floor.

He suffered injuries to his back and hip.

Littlewood did not stop, admitting that he didn't think he had hit anyone and so carried on his journey home.

He was later detained at his house by Nottinghamshire Police where he gave a positive reading in a breathalyser test, which was nearly two times over the legal limit.

Appearing in Nottingham Crown Court on Tuesday, August 18, Littlewood pleaded guilty to drink driving and dangerous driving.

As well as being jailed for two months, he has been banned from driving for more than two years.

Police Constable Matthew Jones led the investigation. He said: “Littlewood is very lucky that no one was seriously hurt or killed, including himself. He has been jailed for two months and disqualified for driving for 26 months.

"He was almost twice over the legal limit and all his senses would have been impaired, which caused his driving to be as dangerous as it was.

"Just one drink or drug-driver on Nottinghamshire’s roads is one too many and our message is simple: drink and drug-drivers will not be tolerated on our county’s roads.

"Driving while under the influence of drink or drugs is always a significant danger.

“This is yet another case that demonstrates how seriously Nottinghamshire Police takes the issue and how we will take positive action to hold those responsible to account."
