The rail provider tweeted another update shortly before 1am saying that the disruption has been cleared and services had returned to normal. It is understood that the pedestrian was struck in Dunbar, with several locals taking to social media after noticing sirens and blue lights near the train tracks in the town.

A spokesman for the BTP said: "British Transport Police were called to the line near Dunbar railway station at 9.54pm yesterday (25 October) following reports of a casualty on the tracks.

"Paramedics also attended, however sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene.

"This incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the procurator fiscal."
