Pedestrian hit by Land Rover on busy city centre road

A pedestrian struck by a Land Rover was being treated on the roadside for head injuries by paramedics this afternoon.

The man, in his 30s, was knocked down as he tried to cross Leeds Street, Liverpool city centre, by its junction with Vauxhall Road.

Witnesses described the man lying on the road receiving treatment from North West Ambulance Service crews.

The vehicle, which remained at the scene, appeared to have been pulling a trailer.

Merseyside Police said the victim was "conscious and breathing" after the collision but had suffered head injuries.

A force spokeswoman said reports had been received of a road traffic collision at 4.15pm involving a Land Rover and a pedestrian.

Traffic officers were in the process of dealing with heavy traffic and it was unclear to what extent road closures would remain in place.
