Pedestrian hit by Adelaide tram suffers serious head injuries

Emergency services at the scene of the collision on Marion Road.

A pedestrian struck by a tram in Adelaide's south-west this morning has been taken to hospital with serious head injuries.

Emergency services were called to the scene near the intersection of Marion Road and Glengyle Terrace at Plympton about 8:45am.

The man was treated by paramedics before being taken to the Royal Adelaide Hospital.

Marion Road was blocked off to traffic between Anzac Highway and Cross Road while emergency crews cleared the area.

Police said an investigation into the incident was now underway and earlier people to avoid the area if possible.

The road has since been re-opened.

Public transport in parts of Adelaide's south has also been impacted, with a number of detours in place for buses.

Adelaide Metro said that Glenelg tram services had since returned to normal running, after earlier being closed between Beckman Street and Jetty Road.
