A man died several days after he was struck by a vehicle in Chicago Lawn on the Southwest Side.

Agustin Alfaro, 59, was crossing the street when a driver struck him while turning left from 65th Street onto Kedzie Avenue, Chicago police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office said.

The crash happened about 7:50 a.m. on July 10, authorities said. Alfaro was taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he died five days later on July 15, the medical examiner’s office said. He lived in the block where he was struck.

The 26-year-old female driver of the Chevy Malibu was issued citations for failing to reduce speed and striking a pedestrian in the roadway, police said.

An autopsy released Thursday found Alfaro died of multiple injuries from the crash, with heart disease as a contributing factor, the medical examiner’s office said. His death was ruled accidental.

The Chicago police Major Accidents unit was investigating the crash.
