Pedestrian dies in A96 early morning horror crash closing road in both directions

A pedestrian has died after being hit by a car on a Scots road.

The A96 is closed both directions between Keith and Huntly after the early morning horror.

Police have warned of serious delays after the Mini Cooper hit the person at around 2.30am.

Emergency crews raced to the scene but the person was pronounced dead.

A police spokesman said: "Around 2.30am on Monday, 17 August, Road Policing officers were called to the A96 between Keith and Huntly, following a crash involving a Mini Cooper and a pedestrian.

"The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene and the road remains closed as the investigation into the circumstances continues. Local diversions are in place."

Traffic Scotland warned at around 6am that there would be 'serious delays' due to a 'serious' road traffic collision.

The organisation tweeted: "The road is likely to remain closed for some time"

A police statement added: "Police Scotland are advising the A96 is closed in both directions due to a road traffic incident.

"Motorists are advised to follow the available diversion route and allow extra time for their journey."
