Pedestrian dies following crash in Downpatrick in Co Down

A pedestrian has died following a road traffic collision in Co Down on Wednesday night.

The accident happened on the Ballydugan Road in Downpatrick, close to Dunleath Park and McDonald's at around 8.30pm.

The Northern Ireland Ambulance Service attended the scene.

A NIAS spokesperson told Belfast Live: “NIAS received a report of a RTC involving a pedestrian on the Ballydugan Road in Downpatrick at 20:38.

“An Emergency Crew and Hart Crew were dispatched to the scene.

“Nobody was taken from the scene.”

A PSNI spokesperson said: "Police can confirm that a man has died following a one vehicle road traffic collision on the Ballydugan Road, at the Downe Retail Park, Downpatrick yesterday evening (October 27th).

Inspector Campbell added: “At approximately 8.30pm, it was reported that a male pedestrian had been struck by a car. The man sadly died at the scene.

“The Ballydugan Road, which was closed following the incident has since reopened.

“Enquires are continuing and the Collision Investigation Unit are appealing for anyone who was in the area at the time and may have witnessed the incident or who has dashcam footage or any other information to contact police on 101 quoting reference number 1946 27/10/21.”
