Police said the truck's driver stopped at the scene and is helping them with the investigation.

A woman has died in hospital after being struck by a truck turning a corner in West Melbourne near the Queen Victoria Market.

The woman, who is yet to be identified, was struck by the truck while it was turning from Victoria St into Peel St about 12:00pm.

The driver stopped at the scene and is in custody helping police with their inquiries.

Police are investigating and want to speak to anyone who may have witnessed the incident.

So far this year 154 lives have been lost on Victoria's roads.

There are traffic diversions in place around the area, VicRoads said.
